We officially launched production on our feature film "Crowbar" this week. Our first shoot was about as simple and easy as it gets. Some iso shots on our lead actress on a sound stage. The shots are an important part of a "freaking out inside my own mind" kinda scene...but more than anything, it was an opportunity for us to play around with the batch of new lenses we put together for this movie. It was also a chance to break the ice with one of our new actress. Natasha was fantastic in her debut. Can't wait to keep plugging away on this thing!
We are less than a week away from rolling our first shot on Crowbar. And now that it's this close...I've been experiencing a lot of how did we get here kind of self-talk. Every story has a beginning...and the beginning for me and my film making buddies is Slaybottle. It was our first movie together...and really...up to this point, our most successful. It was accepted into 3 film festivals -- one in New York, one in Portland, one in Tennessee. It won a Best Editing award at that final festival. All in all, a good start to hopeful careers as professional film makers...in this case, with me writing, producing, and "acting"...my buddy Scott directing.
Slaybottle is also the movie we get the most DVD requests for. In fact, every time we dub off another batch of 20 or 30 DVD's...they fly right off the shelves. Given that it a 14 minute short film, made back in 2005, we figured now is the time the throw the sucker onto the YouTube...so that all y'all bastards can watch the thing for free.
So...here it is. Slaybottle...brought to you by the magic of the internets. Enjoy it...suckas. And gear up for Crowbar...our soon to be most successful movie to date.
I was going to blog an update about Crowbar...but I've already worked 42 hours this week...I've worked 10 days straight, without a day off...and I still have 2 days of work ahead of me.
So instead of detailing the recent gathering of our entire cast...I will instead post a bunch of cast pics. All shots taken for use in the movie...ie...pics that will appear in the movie...as set dressing.
For reasons I can't go into...via rights to privacy...I was forced into a situation where I was required to operate camera 2 for our Friday Night Football Game of the Week live broadcast. So instead of being free to run the streets of Hippieville this past Friday night, I instead sat perched on a platform eating trail mix and tracking prep football up and down the field. I couldn't help but be a bit grumpy about the whole situation...especially when the game was a 55-6 route...and I could see my house from my camera perch. As the night wore on...all I could think about was...these kids better not vandalize my house after the game, while I'm slaving away with cable wrapping.
Anyway... Back into the College Football ranks today. And it's raining. So I've got that going for me. Which isn't nice.
